The All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN) has distanced itself from an online loan scheme that is being advertised on various social media channels.

The website claims that the loan offer of N550,000 per farmer is being advertised by the Federal Ministry Agriculture and Rural Development in collaboration with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria and microfinance Banks.

In a statement made available to newsmen in Katsina, the state AFAN Chairman, Alhaji Ya'u Umar Gwajo-gwajo, said the loan scheme is fake.

"The loan offer of N550,000 for farmers is a scam, we urge farmers in Katsina State to distance themselves from the loan offer.

"AFAN is not aware of the loan offer, the website was designed by fraudsters to scam farmers of their hard-earned money.

"We therefore urge farmers not to fall into the trap of applying for the fraudulent loan offer.

"AFAN also wishes to inform government, relevant stakeholders and members of the public that the association has nothing to do with the loan offer which is being circulated by cyber criminals" the statement notes.
